A whole new setting 2Well as much as any heart would sing when faced with a cesspool. The designer said very interesting in making their extension and when he got back to his office he asked for architects drawing of the original cesspool. The designer had found precisely what he expected. It was deeply sunk into the ground on piles and the foundations of a building which measures some twenty-four feet by thirty-seven feet were there to be exploited. I completed a series of site drawings. I visualized the whole new setting of the old house. Certainly there was need for a new dining room in the old place. But apart from that there was nothing startling to be done. But that cesspool really switched me on as an architect. (more…)

Storied buildingBuilding for three-storied, shaped complex of 21 home units which is the best for architecture designs. Travis & Partners, a top design award for conversion of an existing building. The name not only refers to its age—it began life in the 1890s as a flour mill — but also its long tenancy as a warehouse by Winery. The beautiful oak paneling originally installed by Winery for their offices was retained to grace the new foyer, along with wine casks, a replica of an early grape press, and a dramatic mural of old photographs on the main staircase. Frontage on two streets and a side lane allowed plenty of light and ventilation, and all essential services and fire precautions were installed. (more…)
